JR. RANGER ACTIVITY GUIDE
As a seasonal Park Ranger at Timberland Park, one of my primary projects was developing an educational coloring book that encourages young visitors to explore the park's history, ecology and learn outdoor skills through interactive learning.
I collaborated with my fellow seasonal ranger Jason Stoll to research, write, and illustrate the twenty four page activity book, combining educational content with whimsical illustrations to provide a resource for the park's youth programming.

IDEATION
The images to the left show my process and ideation for the cover of the Junior Ranger Activity Guide. Initially, I explored concepts centered around a map and compass, as well as an acorn-inspired badge, but that didn't feel right.
It wasn't until I was nearly done with the book that I decided to shift the direction of the cover toward Timberland Park’s visual identity and the natural environment visitors experience throughout the park. The giant tree became a central element of the design, surrounded by illustrations of native plants and wildlife to create a cover that feels immersive, inviting, and connected to the park itself.
ACTIVITIES
The guide incorporates elements from our Junior Ranger summer camp program, including the 10 essentials, park rules, the history of the park, and information about native plants and animals found throughout Middle Tennessee. It also encourages young visitors to explore the park and engage their senses through activities like park bingo and identifying pollinators. The images below showcase a couple of pages from the book and some changes made throughout my illustration process.

BECOMING A JR. RANGER
Once guests complete their activity book, they are invited to recite the Junior Ranger pledge and officially become a Junior Ranger. They are then rewarded with a stamp and asked to sign the certificate at the back of the booklet. A Timberland Park Ranger will also sign the certificate, officially recognizing their new Junior Ranger status.
